μπορώ (boró)

“Δεν μπορώ να σηκώσω αυτό το βαρύ τραπέζι” (Den boró na sikóso aftó to varí trapézi) – “I can’t lift this heavy table.”

  • Permission: μπορώ can also be used to ask for permission to do something. For example, “Μπορώ να σας απασχολήσω για λίγο;” (Boró na sas απασχolíso gia λίγο;) means “May I bother you for a moment?”
  • Possibility: μπορώ can express possibility, similar to the English “might” or “could.” For example, “Μπορεί να βρέξει αύριο” (Boreí na vréxi avrio) means “It might rain tomorrow.”
  • Tolerance: Less commonly, μπορώ can indicate tolerance for something. For example, “Δεν τον μπορώ αυτόν τον άνθρωπο” (Den ton boró aftón ton ánthropo) means “I can’t stand that guy.”
